Adopt A Lovable Symbol Of The American West
Wild Horse Foals Available for Adoption

SHINGLETOWN, CA – Approximately 30 wild horse colts and fillies will be available for adoption on Saturday, October 28, 2006 at the Wild Horse Sanctuary, located in the northern California foothills near Lassen Volcanic National Park.  Adoptions get underway at 8:00 a.m. with a silent bid auction, with horses not selected during the auction offered on a first-come, first-serve basis until 3:00 p.m. Available for viewing on Wednesday, October 25 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., the healthy equine youngsters range in age from 3 to 12 months and were recently weaned from their mothers.

The annual horse adoption program is a humane way for the Wild Horse Sanctuary to effectively manage its herd of nearly 300 wild mustangs and burros.  To qualify, potential adopters must meet certain criteria, have the ability and financial means to care for a wild horse, and undergo an interview with Wild Horse Sanctuary staff to ensure their facilities are adequate for accommodating a wild horse, and that they understand adoption regulations.

“With love and care, the foals will grow to be intelligent, sure-footed and loyal,” stated Dianne Nelson, Co-Founder, Wild Horse Sanctuary, “and with a little patience and proper training, they will become great companions.”

The Wild Horse Sanctuary is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving America’s wild horses and has served as a haven for wild mustangs and burros since 1978.  Located near Shingletown, California, approximately 170 miles northeast of Sacramento, these disappearing symbols of the American West can roam free and live out their natural lives within the 5,000-acre sanctuary.
